Ecuador 2007
Our first volunteer vacation with Global Volunteers was in Ecuador in 2007 at the FUNDAC Day Care Center in Calderon, which is just outside Quito. Our team of ten included our daughter and seven others; a father and 16 year old daughter from New Hampshire, a mother and 16 year old son from New York City, a grandmother and 16 year old granddaughter from California and Maryland and a single woman from California. We spent two weeks working with 1-5 year old children while their mothers worked. The afternoons included painting and other maintenance of the facilities.
Romania 2008
In 2008 we worked with GV at a "failure to thrive" clinic in Tutova in northeastern Romania. Of the team of twenty, fifteen worked at the clinic, while the others taught English at the Barlad schools. There were three groups of children: infants, mobile infants and toddlers. We were assigned to the toddler room, where we worked with five 2 and 3 years olds. It was tiring, but great fun!
